Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has announced retirement from international cricket. Watson broke this news ahead of Australia’s upcoming World T20 game against Pakistan.
The 34-year-old had already hinted about this big decision ahead of the start of World T20, stating that he‘ll take the important call after the mega event.
Watto stated that he would pull down the curtains on his career after the Australia’s World T20 journey. He said that he informed his teammates of his decision and felt it is the right time for the decision.
“It’s been over the last week that it’s really become clear that now really is the right time to retire from all international cricket. I’ve been playing with the thought for a few months now and I know now with the way the group is continuing to evolve, which is exciting to be able to see, with my young family as well, and seeing the potential of the international schedule is very hectic. And I just know it’s the right time to be able to right now clear my mind knowing that I’ve made the decision and be absolutely ready to go for these next two very important games, ” Watson was quoted by cricket.co.au saying.
Watson said he was very privileged to have been a part of the Australian team and enjoyed his time as an international cricketer.
He will however continue to feature in T20 leagues the Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Big Bash League and the Pakistan Super League.
The brawny cricketer began his career as a fast bowler but soon polished his batting skills to such extent that he became a top order batsman. Throughout his career he has been a fine all-rounder for his country.
Watson is amongst those 7 players who scored 10,000 runs and took 250 wickets in International Cricket #WT20

Arrogance aside, an in-form Shane Watson was as a treat to watch. Particularly, his leg side baseball-like heaves!!!!
