The short-pitched delivery once again made its way back to haunt Indian opener Gautam Gambhir as his dismissal in the second innings was a simple evidence of the aforementioned statement. Gambhir, who is now 35, has been a part of the generation of Indian batsmen who have had issues with playing the short delivery in recent times.

Gautam Gambhir made his way back into the Test squad following the axing of Shikhar Dhawan. Incidentally both these batsmen play for the same side in the domestic level, something that certainly goes on to enhance the rivalry between the two.

The 35-year old made his comeback to Test cricket and also was consummated by the fact that he slammed a half-century on his return. He made his way back into the grand scheme of things when the newly-formed selection panel decided on making him a full part of the Indian Test squad.

However, as things came to light, the first Test did not go as well as the Indians would have liked and saw Gambhir dismissed to the short-pitched bowling to say the least. The second innings saw the southpaw dismissed by some short stuff by Chris Woakes.

The beauty of it was was the simple fact that this was all setup by Chris Woakes, and it was Gambhir who fell straight into the trap. A short delivery from Woakes saw the southpaw’s prod find its way to second slip, a rather unfortunate way to lose a wicket to say the least.
