Star South African batsman AB de Villiers made a stunning comeback to the Indian Premier League after having missed the first two matches of the season. The match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab was all about knowing whether the star RCB batsman would return to the playing field or not.

The RCB camp surely missed the services of their star batsmen AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli in the first two matches this season. Albeit they managed to win one of those two matches, the top order flaws were on display. Coming to the match against KXIP, the news about AB de Villiers making his comeback had already started doing the rounds of the media.

The crowd at the venue erupted in joy when RCB skipper Shane Watson announced that AB will be playing the match. The Proteas star did not disappoint either. The hard-hitting batsman played the role of a lone ranger as the Challengers were in to bat first. Openers Shane Watson and Vishnu Vinod perished cheaply and AB walked in to bat at number 3.

He took a few deliveries to settle in but then got into a groove of his own – something that he is renowned for. The bowlers of KXIP started looking meek all of a sudden. AB de Villiers made a mockery of the KXIP bowling as he raced past his fifty on return. The South African star cricketer, who was the second leading run-getter for RCB last year, was at his very best after returning from an injury.

Surprisingly though, he found no support from the other end. Wickets kept tumbling from the other end and it looked as if AB played on a different track than the one on which the other RCB batsmen batted. De Villiers finished with an unbeaten 89 off just 46 deliveries with 3 fours and 9 towering maximums to his name. The total of 136 looked low with 19.4 overs been bowled.

AB de Villiers clobbered two sixes off the last two balls of the over bowled by Mohit Sharma to help RCB post a respectable 148 runs on the board. Here is how the Twitter world reacted to his whirlwind lone ranger knock.
