There was a lot of anticipation around the historic Test match between India and Afghanistan which was going to be played in Bangalore. But many are disappointed with the way the Test debutants fared as they are likely to succumb to the World number 1 within two days of the match. On an opening day, they did pretty well to pull things back in the final session by picking 5 wickets. However, the Indian bowlers proved too good for them as they crumbled with the bat inside 28 overs and managed to score only 109 runs.

It took a whole session for them to clear the last four wickets of the hosts as they went on to score a massive 474 runs in their first innings. There was a buzz around the batting of Afghanistan as the likes of Rahmat Shah, Mohammad Nabi and Asghar Stanikzai were expected to put up up a decent show. But what transpired in the middle left their fans frustrated as none of them looked to build a partnership.

Ashwin too good for the visitors

It all started with Mohammad Shahzad getting the run-out courtesy of a brilliant effort from Hardik Pandya. Ishant Sharma got into the act then castled Javed Ahmadi and Afsar Zazai with brilliant inswinging deliveries. Though there was more to do with the technique of the batsmen as there was a huge gap between their bat and pad. The shining light of Afghanistan cricket Rahmat was pinned in front by Umesh Yadav after which R Ashwin proved why he is rated so highly in Asia.

He started accumulating wickets with a loopy off-break to the skipper Asghar Stanikzai who was bowled while playing a defensive shot. He went on to scalp Hashmatullah Shahidi, Nabi and Yamin Ahmadzai then to end the innings with magical figures of 4/27. Nabi though looked the best batsman for them as he scored 24 runs and showed the patience needed in the Test cricket.

They played only 27.5 overs in the first innings and were bundled out for 109 runs. India have enforced the follow-on now as they lead by 365 runs and it should not be a surprise if the game is finished in the final session. The fans, on the other hand, would be hoping that they put up some fight in their second innings.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the dismal show from the visitors:
