Twitter Reactions: Alastair Cook plays 836 minutes marathon knock: England Test captain Alastair Cook started Day4 of the Pakistan v England 1st Test at Abu Dhabi batting unbeaten on 168, though a double hundred looked almost a certainty with the way he was playing; many would have expected either the Pakistan bowlers or the UAE heat to get the English skipper down.
But Cook was out with unbakeable determination and neither of the two could deter him from concentrating his way to what will remain as one of the most respected double hundreds by an English skipper on sub-continent soil. He showed enough will to play out against the odds of temperature, though he was enjoying batting since the wicket was a paradise.
It took Pakistan 836 minutes and 528 balls to move Cook who had scored 263 runs by then and looked good enough for a triple ton out from the batting crease. But a Shoaib Malik delivery induced a chance which Shan Masood grabbed and the marathon runner was making the long walk back.
Though the match looks certain to end in a draw unless of course Pakistan batsmen surprise us, unsurprisingly with another collapse and gift England the match; it will definitely hold a place for itself in the cricketing books, pieces and memories for the Shoaib Malik’s and more so for the 14-hour knock Alastair Cook compiled.

The delivery which accounted for Alastair Cook was actually a No Ball. The first point of contact of Shoaib's foot was beyond the crease.
