Melbourne Renegades have managed to break the five-match streak of the Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season with an exceptional performance. It was yet another low-score kind of a game which has been the trend this season and the tricky chase was easy for the home side in the end.

After opting to bowl first, the Renegades scalped three wickets in the first three overs to leave the visitors reeling at 11/3. While Kane Richardson accounted for a couple, Usman Khan got better of a dangerous D’Arcy Short in a rather peculiar manner. Ben McDermott and George Bailey then joined hands to rebuild the innings making sure that they didn’t lose their way completely.

The duo added 102 runs for the fourth wicket in less than 15 overs. Both of them notched up their respective half-centuries and while McDermott was dismissed soon after his milestone Bailey stayed until the end to remain unbeaten on 70 off just 53 deliveries with six fours and a couple of maximums. Richardson was the best bowler for the Renegades with the figures of 3/38.

Finch’s return bolsters the Renegades

Aaron Finch‘s return to the top of the order brought some stability to the Renegades’ top-order as he played cautiously and scored a vital 42-run knock. Sam Harper raced his way though to 32 off just 18 balls while Daniel Christian and Mohammad Nabi were back to their best once again. Mackenzie Harvey failed to make the opportunity count but his early wicket didn’t make any difference to the hosts.

Harper attacked every bowler of the opposition whil Finch also played calculative strokes to add 64 runs for the second wicket. Despite they lost both the players in quick succession and then Tom Cooper, the duo of Nabi and Christian made sure that the chase wasn’t botched up in the end. They safely reached home in the last over with four balls to spare to bring up their third win of the season.
