The Day 5 saw the end to one memorable Test match from India’s perspective. The Wankhede crowd witnessed India seal the series 3-0 with one match to go. Moreover, India went on to win by an innings and 36 runs as the Poms had no clue how to face Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin, having been the chief architect in every series India has won this home season continued to shine at the Wankhede. He went on to complete his 24th five-wicket haul in just 43 Test matches. He got all the remaining 4 wickets in the bag in the first hour of play on the last day morning.
He began by trapping Jonny Bairstow in front of the stumps with his special weapon, the carrom ball. Bairstow tried reviewing but the off stump was clearly clicking off. He then got the better of Chris Woakes as he had him bowled for a duck. With that, he also completed a ten-wicket haul in the match.
But Ashwin didn’t stop. He had Adil Rashid caught by the lone fielder in deep and then James Anderson giving a dolly to Umesh Yadav, thus marking the end of a great Test match for India. Ashwin went on to register the best match figures by an Indian bowler at the Wankhede.
Basically, Day 5 was literally about Ashwin getting rid of Bairstow and then cleaning the tail. The match got over just 30 minutes into the first session. Virat Kohli and his team took a victory lap to appreciate the crowd for their support which has been surreal in all the five days. Kohli also went on to win the man of the match for his spectacular knock.
Twitter was awestruck by Ashwin’s marvel with the ball. The number of records registered in this Test match kept the statisticians at their toes. Not only him, Kohli, Jayant and Vijay also made some special contributions in the whole test match. Here are some of the best twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:

England only the third team to score 400 and then lose by an innings in the history of Test cricket. Embarrassing loss, that.

Ten wicket haul for Ashwin along with Double Century for Virat Kohli these two taking the Indian team way forward…
— Broken Cricket (@BrokenCricket) December 12, 2016
Ashwin is a hugely skilful bowler but arguably more impressive is his intelligence; his ability to set batsmen up is Warne-esque. #IndvEng
