Twitter Reactions: Australia hand India agonizing defeat to clinch CWG gold

Australia Women defeated India by nine runs in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on August 7, Sunday, in the gold medal match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The Women in Yellow added yet another silverware in the maiden T20 cricket competition of the mega event, after their glory in the 2020 T20 World Cup and 2022 ODI World Cup. Speaking of the contest, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They faced early setbacks in the innings as they lost their star opener, Alyssa Healy, in the third over for seven runs off 12 balls. Her opening partner Beth Mooney top-scored with 61 runs off 41 balls, and the skipper Meg Lanning contributed with a well-made 36 runs off 26 balls. All-rounder Ashleigh Gardner played a good hand in the middle, scoring 25 runs off 15 balls. Rachael Haynes came in at number seven and finished off the innings, scoring an unbeaten 18 runs off 10 balls, and taking Australia to 161/8 in 20 overs. Star Indian pacer Renuka Singh shined yet again with the ball, picking up two wickets for 25 runs in four overs. Ashleigh Gardner delivers with the ball for the Aussies India started off their chase tentatively as they lost both their openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma for 6 and 11 runs respectively. Jemimah Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the ship, adding 96 runs for the third wicket. Pacer Megan Schutt broke the partnership by cleaning up Rodrigues with a slower ball yorker. And Rodrigues departed for a run-a-ball 33 in the 15th over. Kaur got out the in 16th over for 65 runs off 43 balls by Gardner, trying to scoop one over the wicketkeeper Healy. But it was a mishit as the ball ballooned in front and Healy pounced on it with a diving catch. Pooja Vastrakar was sent back early after adding only one run on board. Sneh Rana played her hand with a cameo, scoring eight runs off six balls before being run out. Radha Yadav also followed shortly after being run out for one off two balls. The last of the recognized batters, Deepti Sharma got out for 13 runs off eight balls in the 19th over. India were all out for 152 in 19.3 overs, and yet again came short in a major final.
