Australia managed to win the final match of the series after being out of clutches in the first two Tests. Day 4 began with the Proteas at 6 for 194 runs with a lead of 71 runs. While South Africa would have expected to hold on to a lead of at least 200 for a possible victory, the Aussie pacers wreaked havoc to the visitors bowling line up.
De Kock was the first to return as Bird had him trapped in front of the stumps. Starc had Philander plumb while Hazelwood got rid of Rabada. In the midst of all this, Stephen Cook brought up his second hundred in an emphatic fashion, making him stand a notch above all the others.
The Proteas could only add 56 runs to their overnight score, setting a mere target of 127 runs for the Aussie batsmen to cling on to their first victory in the series. Starc had figures of 4 for 80 as he was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts.
The Australian openers adopted different approaches as they walked into the crease. While Renshaw took all the time in the world to settle down, David Warner seemed to be in a hurry to finish off the game. However, a confusion resulted in a run out as Warner returned scoring 47(51).
Usman Khawaja followed up his century in the first innings with a duck in the second innings as he was trapped LBW by Shamsi. Smith after scoring 40 odd runs edged up to de Kock as Australia were 2 runs away from victory. Debutant Handscomb scored the winning runs as the hosts won by 7 wickets.
Khawaja undoubtedly won the man of the match while Philander was awarded the man of the series. Twitter was full of praise for the young Australian team for bouncing back in the final game of the series. Renshaw got trolled for his slow approach. Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game
Faf's declaration was bold (It had a set batsman and a tailender on 19 something not out. There was something to sacrifice). Also Stupid.

The Channel 9 commentators have missed their dinner reservation. They have every right to be livid at Matt Renshaw.

Australia earn a consolation win in Adelaide, beating South Africa by 7 wickets in the day/night Test #AusvSA pic.twitter.com/4jah0EXhLq

Think twice before you blame a loss by 7 wickets on a declaration that cut a 10th wicket partnership short.

The criticism of Renshaw's scoring rate is not only embarrassing, but shows how much we've forgotten about true Test cricket. #AUSvSA

A painstaking 235-ball Hundred for Stephen Cook. Not pretty but extremely effective, at least in this inns. Well played! ?? #AUSvsSA

Can't condone AUS's booing of du Plessis at Adelaide, but not as bad as S Waugh being spat on by a RSA supporter at Johannesburg #AUSvSA
