Pakistan opener Azhar Ali continued scripting records in the day-night Test. Ali became the first man to score a century in day-night Tests last night. He went on to make his ton and even bigger one. He brought up his second double century in Test cricket. The hapless West Indies bowling were at the receiving end. Ali brought up his double century in style with a boundary.
Having resumed on day 2 on 146, Azhar Ali marshalled along from where he left on day 1. No bowlers seemed to disrupt his concentration. He was well supported by Asad Shafiq in the first session of play. Ali continued to play unperturbed despite losing Shafiq soon after the first session. Shafiq was caught and bowled by Devendra Bishoo on 67.
Ali was joined by Babar Azam in the middle. Pakistan went in to tea on Day 2 at 391/2. Ali brought up his double century soon after the tea break. With the ball not doing much and Azhar batting well, a triple ton can well be on the cards for Azhar Ali. Pakistan look in command with firm grip on the Test. The West Indies bowling hasn’t been anywhere close to being impressive. The body language of the fielders suggest the way they are already feeling down and out.
On the other hand, Ali is batting with flair to add salt to the wounds of tired West Indies bowlers. The day night Test, however, has been a quiet affair thus far. Much against the way it was expected, the Test has failed to draw the audiences to the ground. Empty stands greeted Azhar Ali on reaching his double century. His team-mates, skipper Misbah Ul Haq in particular, looked pleased at the effort. Azhar Ali celebrated in typicla new found Pakistan style with pushups. His teammates shared a laugh at it an it was all joyous scenes for them.
Here are the best tweets after Ali’s double ton:
