The much-awaited biopic based on the life of former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin released with a satisfying response today.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Productions and directed by Tony d’ Souza, the movie starring Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai. and Nargis Fakhri received good reviews from a bulk of movie-goers but the critics had a tough verdict on it. Fans thronged the movie theaters with a hope to watch and relive the cricketers story from Mohammad Azharuidding perspective.

After the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev enjoyed the love and stardom and before the batting prodigy called Sachin Tendulkar took the world by storm, Mohammad Azharuddin, the ‘Miyaan’ from Hyderabad, had reigned over the hearts of the Indian cricket fans in the 1980’s.

John Woodcock, the celebrated cricket writer, has once said about him: “It’s no use asking an Englishman to bat like Mohammad Azharuddin. It would be like expecting a greyhound to win the Epsom Derby.”

His career had seen every success a cricketer dreams of. However, just when his illustrious career entered its last phase a tragedy hit him. Azharuddin was embroiled in the most controversial scandal in Indian cricket’s history. The then skipper was alleged to have fixed matches and introduce cricketer to bookies. In 2000, the BCCI banned him for life. For the next decade, he kept fighting in a search for resurrection.

He finally found relief from the taint after Andhra Pradesh Court set aside his life ban in 2012. But, it was too late by then as Azhar, 49 years of age that time was too old to wield the bat and treat his fans with his imperial game.

Azhar was one of the most awaited films this and created a lot of media buzz, especially after it’s trailer release. Twitter was also buzzing with tweeple’s sharing their reviews and verdict about the movie.

Here are some interesting responses to the movie on Twitter.
