In what was another action packed day at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh continued to have a stronger hold in the Test match. Earlier in the day, Australia who had been reduced to 18/3 overnight continued to struggle against spin. Skipper Steve Smith tried to come down the track but ended up getting stumped.
With the scoreboard reading 33/4, it was a splendid 69-run partnership between opener Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb that recovered the innings for the visitors after an early slump. As soon as Taijul Islam broke the partnership, another collapse triggered in the Australian batting ranks as they were left reeling at 144/8.
The likes of Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell failed terribly given their allegiance against spin. However, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins in the lower order ensured Australia crossed the 200-run mark and lowered the Bangladeshi lead. While the visitors were bundled for 217 runs, Agar remained not out on 41.
Shakib Al Hasan again proved his potential as he ended up picking a five-wicket haul. Mehedi Hasan was also splendid, taking three important wickets. Bangladesh came out to bat with a first innings lead of 43 runs in their account.
The Australian bowlers tried hard to get some quick Bangladeshi wickets but failed in their attempt. However, just when the day was about to end, Soumya Sarkar committed harakiri as he skied a ball falling straight into the hands of Usman Khawaja. Agar got them the breakthrough after a splendid effort with the bat.
At stumps on Day 2, Bangladesh were placed at 45/1 with a lead of 88 runs. They would be looking forward to setting a target of 250 runs or so. On the other hand, Australia would be hoping they don’t get to chase anything in excess of 200. We might well witness a winner tomorrow as the game promises to provide an exciting finish.

Bangladesh have been superb but these tactics now are poor. Not enough close catchers, too many easy singles. #BANvsAUS

I am not an expert but I think Warner & Maxwell should play their natural game. Remember "attack is the best form of defense" #AUSvBAN

So glad our cricketers were able to resolve that pay dispute so that they could get back to massively sucking on overseas pitches. #AUSvBAN

For starters champ it's Matt not mike.
And secondly, he didn't hit the ball or even play a shot at it to be dropped at slip. #AUSvsBAN— Matt Mason (@maso_12) August 28, 2017
