In the final encounter of the short series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, the hosts emerged as victorious, sealing the series 2-1 in their favour. Earlier in the day, it was captain Mashrafe Mortaza who won the toss as Bangladesh elected to bat first.
The home team was off to a splendid start after Sarkar got out. The duo of Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman put up a 140-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Tamim again showed his masterclass with a spectacular century while Rahman also scored a magnificent fifty.
Once Tamim got out, Bangladesh lost a flurry of wickets in quick succession. From there, Mahmudullah played a sensational cameo of 32 (22)* as he took Bangladesh to a good total. The hosts ended up setting a target of 280 runs for the Afghan batsmen.
For Afghanistan Nabi, Ashraf and Rashid were among the bowlers who got a couple of wickets. Zadran and Rahmat also managed to sneak a wicket. While the Afghan bowlers failed to capitalise early after Sarkar’s wicket, they did some damage control in the end to restrict the hosts to 279/8.

On the other hand, Afghanistan lost their prime batsman Mohammed Shahzad for a duck. Mangal and Rahmat got good starts and looked to hang on for a while. However, once they were back to the pavilion, the Afghanistan batting lineup fell like a pack of cards.
From 52/1, the visitors were further reduced to 89/7 and gradually 138 all out. The Bangladesh bowlers did a decent job with Hossain picking 3 scalps. Taskin also found himself among a couple of wickets. Mortaza, Islam and Saikat also managed to sneak in a wicket each. Bangladesh went on to win the game by 141 runs and also registered their 100th ODI win.
Twitter had great admiration for Afghanistan players and the way they fought throughout the series. On the other hand, they also hoped that Bangladesh will improve themselves before the more important challenge against England starting 7th October.
