The Guyana Amazon Warriors were up against the Barbados Tridents after a close shave against St Lucia Stars in their previous encounter. All the attention ahead of this battle was on Steve Smith, who was making his debut in the tournament. Although he fared decently well, all the limelight was stolen by Shai Hope and Raymond Reifer.

These two players performed unbelievably well and helped their team bag an important win. The Barbados Tridents won this match by 30 runs. With a massive win in this encounter, the Tridents are now second on the points table while Guyana Amazon Warriors continue to be at the top.

Shai Hope stuns one and all with some great hitting

The Barbados Tridents were put into bat first by the Warriors at their home ground. The visitors were struck with a severe blow early on in the innings as both their openers were dismissed within two overs. While Dwayne Smith scored 6 runs, Martin Guptill got out for a duck. The side was in a state of trouble as Shai Hope and Steve Smith walked out into the middle.

These two men played some great cricket and put the innings back on track. They added 105 runs together before Smith was trapped in front of the stumps by Imran Tahir. Shai Hope got out after he scored 88 off 45 balls. Wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran scored 45 off 27 balls towards the end as the Barbados Tridents put on 185 runs on the board.

Raymond Reifer dents the Warriors’ chances with a 5-wicket haul

Just like the Barbados Tridents, Warriors also lost their openers for low scores. Luke Ronchi failed to deliver as he just scored 10 runs in the match. The local hero Shimron Hetmyer continued to bat at the No 3 position and went hard at the bowlers early on. He scored 22 off 9 balls. But, he played one shot too many as he was dismissed by Reifer.

The chances of Warriors getting close to the target looked good as long as Shoaib Malik was in the middle. But, once he was dismissed after scoring 38 runs, it looked as if they were never going to get over the line. The team only managed to score 155 runs in 20 overs and lost the game by 30 runs. Raymond Reifer was terrific with the ball.

Twitterati was glad to see Steve Smith back on the field. They also praised Reifer and Hope for their performances in the match.
