Team England made short work of the Pakistani side in the second and the final Test of the short series. England beat Pakistan by an innings and 55 runs in the Headingley Test to level the series 1-1. Coming in to the game, the hosts were under the pump after having lost the first Test by 9 wickets at Lord’s. They needed a spirited show in the game to bounce back and they found themselves doing so in some fine fashion.

The chief architects of the English win in the game were their bowlers. They did not let the Pakistani batsmen settle at the crease and bundled them to scores under the 175-run mark in both the innings. In the match, Pakistan had won the toss and opted to bat first. They suffered a batting collapse as Chris Woakes, James Anderson, and Stuart Broad bagged three wickets each in the innings.

A fighting 56 from Shadab Khan saw the visitors finish with 174 runs in their first innings. This, by any means, was not a competitive score to get in the first innings of the Test match. To add to the miseries of the tourists, England batsmen showed great skill to take a handsome first innings lead.

Alastair Cook, Joe Root, and Dominic Bess got into the forties to ensure that the innings did not suffer any hiccups. The real impetus in the innings was given by Jos Buttler, who scored an unbeaten 80 as England finished with 363 in their first innings. With a lead of 189, they knew they had their noses ahead in the competition. Pakistan needed a spirited fightback from their batsmen but their fortunes with the bat did not change.

Only three batsmen got in to the double digits and just two batsmen crossed the 30-run mark as they were bundled out for 134. Stuart Broad and Dominic Bess scalped three wickets in the innings. Jos Buttler was awarded the Man of the Match for his performance in the game.
