Windies had a great chance to level the ODI series against India in their own den. But their batsmen have blown away an opportunity by putting up a reckless display. They went into this game with a batsman short. Chandrapaul Hemraj was dropped after continuously failures and Oshane Thomas was included while the injured Ashley Nurse was replaced by the leggie Devendra Bishoo.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Windies opted to bat first under overcast conditions and clearly, things didn’t go well for them. The fall of wickets started from the very first over of the innings as Bhuvneshwar Kumar finally looked a decent bowler for the first time on his comeback. He sent back Kieran Powell even as Shai Hope was castled in the very next over by Jasprit Bumrah.
Early wickets pegged the visitors back completely. The duo of Rovman Powell and Marlon Samuels looked to resurrect. They added 34 runs for the third wicket in more than 10 overs and just when it felt that things were coming back on track, the experienced veteran chipped the ball straight to mid-wicket fielder off Ravindra Jadeja to leave his team in trouble.
Jadeja takes over the mantle
The onus was once again on Shimron Hetmyer who has been the star for the Caribbean side in this series. But even he failed to deliver today and was trapped in front by Jadeja. The left-arm spinner came over the wicket to him and the flamboyant batsman fell in the trap and a smart review was taken from the Men in Blue thanks to Jadeja’s repetitive insistence for the same.
Hetmyer’s wicket had all but shattered the hopes of them to post a huge total on the board. Even Powell hit the ball straight to the fielder in the deep. The skipper Jason Holder was once again left to do a lot of repair work and on his part, he tried his best. His 25 runs was the best score of the innings as only three Windies players could cross the double-figure mark. Three of them bagged ducks and they could never recover from the early blows.
The introduction of the spinners never allowed them to make a comeback and fittingly, Ravindra Jadeja picked the last wicket ending with impressive figures of 4/34 in 9.5 overs. This turned out to be his second four-wicket haul since making a comeback in the format. India are expected to canter to victory and win yet another ODI series at home with a margin of 3-1.

After two impressive performances West Indies back to the familiar, inept ways. Very disappointing batting performance. Paltry score of 104 makes it virtually impossible to defend
