The 17th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a heavyweight clash between the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals and four-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday, April 12.
In a shocking revelation, Rajasthan Royals batter Riyan Parag failed to make his way into the visitor’s playing XI for their clash against Chennai. Parag had been a regular member of the lineup for a few years, and the 21-year-old featured in all three matches that the side had played in the IPL 2023 so far.
However, his poor form with the bat eventually saw him getting dropped for the high-voltage clash. He could amass just 34 runs in the three matches that he had been a part of in the 16th edition of the IPL. Apart from Trent Boult, he was the second change in the Rajasthan lineup as Devdutt Padikkal made his way back in with Kuldeep Sen playing his first game of the season as well. As Parag missed the game against Chennai, fans took to Twitter to praise the team for their decision.
Jos Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer power RR to respectable total
After coming in to bat first after losing the toss, man-in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to make an impact for Rajasthan at Chepauk as the Indian batter was dismissed after scoring just 10 runs. Jos Buttler stabilised the innings as he built on his good form, adding 52 runs to his name. Devdutt Padikkal also scored 38 runs to help Rajasthan's cause.
However, it was skipper Sanju Samson who once again failed to perform. The 28-year-old was sent back to the pavilion on a duck for the second consecutive time as he also failed to score any runs against Delhi Capitals in Rajasthan’s previous outing. After Buttler’s half-century, Shimron Hetmyer continued his excellent form and notched up another integral 30* runs to his name, propelling Rajasthan Royals to a total of 175 runs after 20 overs.
