The second Test match between hosts Pakistan and England at the Multan Cricket Stadium is moving at a rapid pace after the visitors ran through the Pakistani middle order in the first session of the second day. A disappointing show by the middle-order batters handed England a substantial 79 run-lead on a tricky surface, inviting backlash from the netizens.

The home side ended the first day in a strong position, with skipper Babar Azam and young Saud Shakeel keeping the English bowlers at bay. However, the visitors found their way back into the game after Ollie Robinson cleaned up Babar Azam, breaking a defiant 91-run stand for the third wicket. Saud Shakeel was also dismissed after a well-made 63 as Jack Leach started dictating terms on a turning track in Multan.

Mohammad Rizwan also fell prey to the left arm-spinner, triggering an embarrassing collapse that saw Pakistan lose four wickets in the space of just three overs. Former England skipper Joe Root also contributed to the carnage with two wickets in an over. Bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf did add a few handy runs for the hosts with a late riposte, but his defiance was ended by Mark Wood, who grabbed two wickets of his own.

England's Jack Leach, who did not have much of a say on a flat track in the series opener in Rawalpindi, was influential in England's fightback, scalping four Pakistani wickets. With a considerable first-innings lead, England will be looking to add quick runs in their second innings as the pitch is becoming increasingly difficult to bat, especially against the slower bowlers.

Meanwhile, the hosts will have to find a way to keep the England batters quiet in the second innings to avoid another loss in the ongoing Test series.

Here is how Twitter reacted to an embarrassing batting collapse by the Pakistani batters in the second Test:
