After their disappointing showing in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia have turned the tables around in the second match. The team managed to notch up 263 runs in their first innings after impressive performances from Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb.

Team India started off Day 2 with all of their wickets in hand, but skipper Rohit Sharma could not follow up on his batting performance from the first Test after being dismissed for 32 runs. Nathan Lyon was fabulous for the Aussies on Day 2 as the 35-year-old completed a fifer after he dismissed Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer and KS Bharat.

There was a lot of discussion over Virat Kohli’s dismissal as well; the ace Indian batter was batting at 44 when he was adjudged LBW. His dismissal sparked a controversy as many thought that the Delhi-born was a tad unlucky.

The one positive for India was the performance of Axar Patel. The 29-year-old was fabulous as he fought back against Australia and played an inspiring knock of 74 off 115 balls. Axar’s innings was crucial for India in reaching the score of 262 after their first innings. Ravichandran Ashwin also contributed to the total, as the veteran spinner scored 37 off 71 balls before he was sent back to the pavilion by skipper Pat Cummins.

The end of Day 2 saw Australia lose one wicket after scoring 61 in their second innings. Usman Khawaja was sensational in the first innings but was unable to score big as Ravindra Jadeja dismissed him for six runs. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne stood at the crease until stumps were called. They will continue forward and aim to increase their lead against India on Day 3.
