Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally managed to end their six-match losing streak as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 35 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, April 25.

Opting to bat first, Bengaluru posted a commendable total of 206/7 in their 20 overs after Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar struck contrasting half-centuries and Cameron Green provided the late flourish. Jaydev Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers, as he picked up three wickets for the loss of 30 runs in his four-over spell.

In reply, Sunrisers lost half their side for 69 runs inside the first eight overs and never really recovered from that. Eventually, the Orange Army batted out their 20 overs, where they scored only 171/8 after Shahbaz Ahmed remained unbeaten on a 37-ball 40. Pat Cummins threatened for a brief while during his 15-ball 31, but Sunrisers had left themselves too much to get at the backend.

Patidar was awarded Player of the Match for his breathtaking half-century, which helped RCB keep a healthy run rate through the middle overs.

Let’s take a look at the highlights from the match:

1. Cameron Green steals the show with all-round heroics

The Australian all-rounder turned out to be the star of the match, as he played well with both bat and ball. Batting at No. 5, Green smashed five fours during his unbeaten knock of 37 off 20 balls. He took confidence from his brilliant outing with the bat and took a couple of wickets with the ball, conceding just 12 runs in two overs.

2. Rajat Patidar scores second consecutive half-century

The right-handed batter had a dreadful start to IPL 2024 but is slowly showing his class. After scoring 52 off 23 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in the last game, the 30-year-old slammed a 20-ball 50, hitting two fours and five sixes against Cummins and Co. His knock, not only gave the RCB innings some much-needed impetus but also set the ideal platform for the big hitters in the lower order to capitalise.

3. Virat Kohli scores 37-ball half-century

Virat Kohli continued churning out the runs as he notched up his 53rd half-century in his illustrious IPL career. The former captain scored a watchful 51 off 43 balls, hitting four fours and one six. He became the first batter to cross 400 runs in IPL 2024. While some criticised Kohli for his slow approach, others felt that the knock was a perfect foil for Patidar during the important third wicket partnership of 65 runs off 34 balls.
