The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced their 15-member squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is set to begin in Australia on October 16. Meanwhile, veteran Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir took it to social media to express his displeasure with the team selection, calling it “cheap”. But, that did not go down well with the fans.

Pakistan had to cope with a few injury concerns in recent times with their bowling spearhead, Shaheen Shah Afridi, missing the Asia Cup 2022 due to a blow to the knee ligament, and with their young pacer Shahnawaz Dahani sustaining a side strain ahead of Super 4 of the competition. While the current status of the pair’s injury remains unclear, they have been named among the 15 players for the World Cup.

Apart from Afridi and Dahani, Pakistan’s bowling lineup comprises pacers Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain, with spinner Usman Qadir. They also have all-rounders – Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, and Mohammad Wasim Jnr.

Don't think Saqlain Mushtaq has any idea about T20 cricket: Shoaib Akhtar

For the batting unit, Pakistan have gone with virtually the same template used in the Asia Cup 2022. And former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was also not happy with the squad selection. He called the PCB Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim “average” and said that his decisions are not up to the mark. He also claimed that head coach Saqlain Mushtaq has no idea about T20 cricket.

“When the chief selector is average, his decision will also be average,” said Akhtar on his YouTube channel. “Saqlain (Mushtaq) last played cricket in 2002, I don’t want to say this as he is my friend, but I don't think he has any idea about T20 cricket. I don’t think this is your forte.”

Akhtar also accused the side’s batting coach, Mohammad Yousuf, of not being involved with the team. He said that if Yousuf was with the team, the players would not be performing the way they are. “Yousuf is an asset in the dressing room, but I don’t know how much say he has in this team,” Akhtar said. The fans, however, do not seem to be on the same page as Amir or Akhtar.

Meanwhile, let's look how fans reacted to Mohammad Amir's Tweet:
