MI Emirates comfortably got the better of Sharjah Warriors by six wickets in the sixth match of the International League (ILT20) 2023 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, January 17. By the virtue of this win, the Emirates succeed in continuing their winning run in the tournament.

It was a clinical performance from the Kieron Pollard-led side who dominated right from the word ‘go’ and outplayed the opposition in all departments of the game. The Emirates bowlers were simply outstanding with the ball in hand which ended up restricting the Warriors to a manageable total in the end.

MI Emirates skipper Kieron Pollard called it right at the toss and decided to bowl first. His bowlers did not let him down and provided breakthroughs from one end regularly. However, opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore was a thorn in the eye for them as he counter-attacked the bowlers from the other end.

Unfortunately for the Sharjah Warriors, Tom received no support from the other end, and was the lone warrior for his side scoring a 41-ball 55. After he was bowled by veteran Protean leggie Imran Tahir, it felt as if Sharjah would struggle to post a decent total on the board.

Nonetheless, Paul Walter added finishing touches with an unbeaten 28 off 18 deliveries as the Sharjah Warriors reached a respectable total of 146/7. Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo (3/25) and Imran Tahir (2/17) were the picks of the bowlers for the MI Emirates.

In reply, Will Smeed and Muhammad Waseem helped the Emirates get off to a decent start with a 36-run opening stand before the former’s dismissal for 29. Waseem looked in good touch, but was sent back by Mohammad Nabi in the 14th over for 40 runs against his name.

Even though captain Kieron Pollard was bowled by Junaid Siddique for 19 runs, it did not matter much as his Windies teammate Nicholas Pooran played the finisher’s role to perfection remaining unbeaten on 39 runs off 21 balls.

Here’s how Twitterati reacted to MI Emirates’ impressive performance
