Chennai Super Kings managed to beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs in match no. 55 and have solidified their place at number two in the IPL 2023 points table. Opting to bat first, the four-time champions lost their openers pretty early on as most of the batters struggled to get going on a pitch that was heavily favouring the slow bowlers. Assessing the conditions well, MS Dhoni during the toss mentioned the same reason for choosing to bat first.

Meanwhile, after Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad went back to the pavilion, the responsibility fell on Ajinkya Rahane’s shoulders to deliver but the veteran succumbed under pressure as he could score only 21 runs off 20 deliveries.

Notably, the 34-year-old started the IPL 2023 season in a remarkable fashion but is struggling to score runs in the last few matches. Later on, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Mooen Ali rather cheaply as DC were all over CSK at one stage in the match.

However, Shivam Dube’s counter-attacking cricket helped CSK to come out of a difficult situation as the 29-year-old hit 25 runs off 12 deliveries. Later on Ambati Rayudu (23 runs off 17 deliveries) and Ravindra Jadeja (21 runs off 16 deliveries) gave CSK the much-needed push but that eventually wasn’t enough and that’s when MS Dhoni came to bat and helped CSK post a healthy total on the board.

The 41-year-old smashed 20 runs off just nine deliveries and helped the homes team post 167 runs on board after 20 overs. Notably, Australia international Mitchell Marsh picked up three wickets in the match while Axar Patel picked up two.

When it came to the chase, Delhi once again struggled to get going. Skipper David Warner failed to open his tally as Deepak Chahar sent him back to the pavilion. The pacer dismissed Phil Salt as well and with that, DC were under tremendous pressure.

Later on, Manish Pandey (27) and Rilee Rossouw (35) tried to build a partnership but that failed as well. In the end, the visiting team could post 140 runs on the board as with the ball, Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana picked up two and three wickets respectively.
