The England team have laid down the marker by defeating World Champions Australia for a second game running to claim the three-match T20I series. The hosts fell short by eight runs in pursuit of England's challenging total of 178 runs in the second T20I in Canberra. While Mitchell Marsh and Tim David threatened for Australia, Dawid Malan and Sam Curran provided the impetus for England in the series-deciding clash.
Australia's chase got off to a stuttering start following Aaron Finch and David Warners' dismissals inside the powerplay. The visitors kept chipping away at the wickets as Glenn Maxwell's lean run with the bat continued. Marcus Stoinis, who dazzled in the previous encounter, was looking in ominous touch yet again.
Stoinis' dismissal was a big blow, but the decisive wicket came in the 15th over when Ben Stokes, with his happy knack of providing crucial wickets, got rid of the dangerous Mitchell Marsh to hand England the initiative. But the monstrous Tim David was in no mood to surrender as the powerful hitter shifted the momentum with a blistering 40 off 23 deliveries before Sam Curran halted his innings with a searing yorker. David's dismissal proved to be the final nail in the coffin as Australia fell short by eight runs.
England's death bowling was on point for the second game in a row as the visitors held their nerve despite Marsh and David's scathing assault in the middle overs. While Sam Curran starred with the ball, returning with exceptional bowling figures of 3/24, a special mention has to go for their brilliant fielding effort in the series decider.
Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali's combative partnership secured a strong finish for the visitors
Earlier in the match, Australian skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bowl first on a pitch that had a bit of moisture due to the relentless rain in the region. The visitors were off to a decent start before the returning bowling ace Pat Cummins got rid of the dangerous English skipper Jos Buttler in the fourth over.
Alex Hales followed his skipper back to the dressing room in the next over. Ben Stokes and Harry Brook were disappointed for the second game in a row as England were in a spot of bother with the scoreboard reading 54/4 in the ninth over. But Dawid Malan, who did not get much of a bat in the first T20I, anchored the innings while Moeen Ali took the attack to Australia in an assertive 92-run stand for the fifth wicket.
The English batters were handed a few reprieves by the sloppy Aussies during their innings as the visitors finished with a strong total of 178 runs in their 20 overs, thanks to Malan's 82 off 49 deliveries. Marcus Stoinis, who received plenty of tap in the first game, came to the fore with three wickets in his four overs, while Adam Zampa impressed once again with figures of 2/26.

England delighted to go 1-0 up in the series (their win in the first match didn't count, apparently, because Australia were missing first-choice bowlers).

What a spell by Sam Curran. His bowling figure (4-0-25-3) and the wicket of Maxwell, Stoinis and Tim David. And he bowled two overs in death. Top class spell, Sam Curran. pic.twitter.com/onURFvC7Ub

A career best T20I figures of 3 for 25 for Sam Curran chokes the hosts as England win the series with a match to go. Dawid Malan's 82 helped England post 178 and Australia were 8 runs short of the target despite the late charge by Tim David pic.twitter.com/8WIoXTGJqz
