The 64th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Wednesday, May 17.
Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Delhi Capitals got off to a wondrous start as Prithvi Shaw and skipper David Warner attacked the opposition right from the word go. Shaw scored 54 runs in 38 deliveries, whereas Warner amassed 46 runs in 31 balls. Furthermore, Phil Salt also added 26* runs to the scoreboard. However, it was the knock of South African batter Rilee Rossouw that propelled Delhi to a huge total.
Rossouw played an unbeaten knock of 82 runs in just 37 deliveries, and his knock helped Delhi post 213 runs on the board for Punjab to chase. English all-rounder Sam Curran was the only wicket-taker for Punjab, striking twice with the wickets of Shaw and Warner and conceding 36 runs in the process.
Livingstone's efforts in vain as PBKS suffer heavy loss
Coming into bat during the run chase, disaster met Punjab early as skipper Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed on a golden duck. Prabhsimran Singh also failed to make an impact, as he was dismissed for just 22 runs. Atharva Taide and Liam Livingstone did show resilience and attempted to win the game for the side; however, the target was too big to be chased down in the end.
Taide amassed 55 runs in 42 deliveries before his innings was cut short after he retired out. Furthermore, Jitesh Sharma and Shahrukh Khan failed to make an impact as they collectively scored six runs. Liam Livingstone stood at the crease until the end, scoring 94 runs in 48 deliveries.
Delhi put in a decent performance with the ball during the run chase. Khaleel Ahmed and Axar Patel took one wicket each to hinder the run chase for Punjab, whereas Anrich Nortje and Ishant Sharma struck twice each.
