The 20th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a thrilling clash between the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, on Saturday, April 15.
After the hosts posted 175 runs after 20 overs, Delhi came in to chase the target, and the David Warner-led side came into the innings quite confident following their fabulous performance with the ball, which limited Bangalore to a decent score on a typically batter-friendly surface.
However, the hosts retaliated in style as Prithvi Shaw was dismissed in the very first over of the second innings after the 23-year-old ran himself out on the fourth ball of the over, which continued his horrid run in the tournament. The nightmare start did not stop for Delhi as Mitchell Marsh, who impressed with his spell in the first innings, failed to make an impact with the bat as he got dismissed on a duck during the run chase.
Following Marsh’s dismissal, 20-year-old Yash Dhull was sent packing as well after a brilliant delivery by Mohammed Siraj. However, things went from bad to worse after man-in-form David Warner was dismissed after scoring just 19 runs in 13 deliveries. Losing four wickets in the powerplay hindered Delhi's plan to chase the target comfortably.
Delhi Capitals aim to register first win of the IPL 2023
Ace Indian keeper batter Rishabh Pant’s absence was sure to hurt Delhi Capitals’ plan going into the IPL 2023. However, under the leadership of David Warner, the side has been unable to win a single game in the ongoing tournament so far.
In the four matches that Delhi has played so far, they have lost every single one and as pressure mounts on the team with each loss, they would get desperate to register their first win of the season to keep their playoff qualification hopes alive.
