Gujarat Giants started their Legends League Cricket 2022 campaign with a big three-wicket win over India Capitals on Saturday, Sepetmber 17. The Capitals, under Jacques Kallis' leadership, scored 179 runs while batting first at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. West Indies batter Ashley Nurse scored the highest 103 runs off 43 balls and Danesh Ramdin scored 31 for the Capitals. But this big total proved short for the Capitals, as Kevin O'Brien smashed 107 runs off 61 balls to guide Giants to a big win.

Virender Sehwag won the toss and invited India Capitals to bat first at Eden Gardens. His decision proved successful for the Giants with KP Appana dismissing Hamilton Masakadza on just seven runs on the first delivery of the fourth over. Appana bowled out Kallis on a duck in the same over to give Giants a dream start. Rayad Emrit then removed Zimbabwe batter Solomon Mire in the next over and Graeme Swann dismissed Suhail Sharma on the duck to put Giants in a control with 4/34 in 6.2 overs on the scoreboard.

But West Indies batters Danesh Ramdin and Ashley Nurse dominated the middle overs with a crucial 40-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Thisara Perera dismissed Ramdin on 31 runs and took the wicket of Rajat Bhatia on the next delivery. But Nurse kept the scoreboard moving with a sensational century. He remained unbeaten on 103 runs off just 43 balls with the help of eight fours and nine sixes.

Kevin O'Brien continues his red-hot form:

The in-form Irish star Kevin O'Brien, who smashed 52 runs in the exhibition match, gave Giants a start they needed. He formed a crucial and quick 40-run partnership for the first wicket with Sehwag, who was the first casualty for the Giants. Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson dismissed Sehwag on just six runs to give the Capitals some hope.

Indian wicketkeeper batter-Parthiv Patel and O'Brien then put an explosive 70-run partnership for the second wicket. Parthiv smashed 24 runs off just 13 balls before getting bowled out on Nurse's delivery in the eleventh over. O'Brien then formed another crucial partnership with Yashpal Singh to get the Capitals to closer to a big win.

But Liam Plunkett dismissed O'Brien on 107 runs and Perera on just one run in the 18th over. The veteran Indian spinner Pravin Tambe took two wickets in the 19th over but Giants reached the target with three wickets and eight balls remaining. Tambe took three wickets while conceding only 28 runs and Plunkett grabbed two for 23 for the Capitals.
