England defeated Pakistan by 23 runs to win the second T20I of the series at Edgbaston. The first match was called off due to rain and in the second T20I of the series, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opening the batting, Phil Salt failed to deliver with the bat. He made 13 runs off nine balls. However, skipper Jos Buttler rose up to the occasion and hit 84 runs off 51 deliveries.

Batting at number three, WIll Jacks built a crucial partnership with Buttler. He made 37 runs while Bairstow hit 21 runs off 18 balls. His form is a massive concern for the Three Lions going into the T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, none of the middle-order batters managed to step up. Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali failed terribly and that too needs to be addressed ahead of the mega tournament, which will start in eight days.

Meanwhile, England managed to post 183 runs in the first innings, which didn’t look enough at the halfway mark. Shaheen Shah Afridi was terrific with the ball for Pakistan as he picked up three wickets, while Imad Wasim and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets each.

When it came to the chase, opener Mohammad Rizwan failed to open his tally. Another opener Saim Ayub, who was considered to be a big shot in the shortest format, made just two runs in the match. Skipper Babar Azam made 32 runs off 26 balls while batting at number four Fakhar Zaman played a blistering knock 45 runs off 21 balls. However, neither of them could take Pakistan close to the target.

Towards the end, Iftikhar Ahmed and Imad Wasim tried their best but couldn’t get the job done. For England, Reece Topley picked up three wickets while Moeen Ali and the returning Jofra Archer picked up two wickets each. On the other hand, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone picked up one wicket each. Meanwhile, courtesy of his brilliant batting, Buttler was adjudged POTM.
