The 20th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a thrilling clash between the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Saturday, April 15.
Losing the toss, Bangalore came in to bat first. Coming on the back of a fabulous performance with the bat, ace India batter Virat Kohli and skipper Faf du Plessis looked for a similar innings against Delhi as well. Kohli delivered upon the same as the 34-year-old scored his 47th IPL half-century, amassing 50 runs in 34 deliveries.
On the other hand, Du Plessis failed to make an impact, as he only managed to score 22 runs in 16 deliveries before being sent back to the pavilion by Mitchell Marsh. After the fall of the first few wickets, the responsibility fell onto Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s shoulders.
After a brilliant knock in his previous game, the 34-year-old also failed to make an impression, as he too was dismissed after scoring just 24 runs in 14 balls. After Dinesh Karthik’s golden duck, Bangalore seemed to be facing a collapse. However, through decent knocks by Shahbaz Ahmed, Mahipal Lomror, and impact player Anuj Rawat, the side managed to post 174 runs after 20 overs.
Mitchell Marsh put in an excellent performance with the ball, taking two wickets and conceding just 18 runs in the two overs he bowled. Apart from him, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav also struck twice, conceding 23 runs in the four overs he bowled, which included a maiden as well.
Except Kuldeep and Marsh, Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav took a wicket each as well further to mount pressure on an already struggling Bangalore side. Led by David Warner, Delhi would be keen on notching their first win of the season, as they need 175 runs to register their first two points of the IPL 2023.
