Earlier in the day, it was captain Gautam Gambhir who won the toss as Kolkata Knight Riders elected to bowl first. They had an unchanged playing XI from their last game. On the other hand, SRH made two changes as Bipul Sharma and Mohammed Siraj came in for Deepak Hooda and Ashish Nehra.

Throughout the tournament, one of the SRH openers have stepped up in one game or the other. In this game, it was David Warner’s turn. And what the Hyderabad crowd witnessed was a magnificent display of pinch hitting by the captain as he smashed 126 runs from just 59 balls.

Shikhar Dhawan on the other end wasn’t required to contribute much as all he had to do was rotate strike with Warner who was on a roll. Once Dhawan got out, it was the Kane Williamson show to finish the SRH innings in style. He scored a quickfire 40 runs from 25 balls as Sun Risers Hyderabad ended up scoring 209/3 in their quota of 20 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers were taken for the cleaners. Right from Nathan Coulter Nile to Umesh Yadav, no one managed to create any kind of pressure on the SRH batsmen at any point. One wicket was taken by Chris Woakes who went for 46 runs while the other was a run out.

The KKR batsmen failed to begin well. Both the openers Sunil Narine and captain Gautam Gambhir were back to the dug out within the first 3 overs. Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey followed up by batting really well as they tried to make a game out of it.

Robin Uthappa hit another half century as he scored 53(28) which had 4 boundaries and 4 maximum. However, once both got out, SRH bowlers cashed in and applied much pressure on the lower order batsmen. The likes of Yusuf Pathan, Sheldon Jackson and Colin De Grandhomme failed to get going as KKR were restricted to 161/7.

The trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj and Siddharth Kaul, all got a couple of wickets each as the hosts went on to win the game by 48 runs. David Warner was deservingly rewarded the man of the match for his outstanding century.

Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game.
