It was the Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians contest at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi, in the first match of the day, Zaheer Khan and company took on Rohit Sharma’s team and the game turned out to be a really close contest and went down till the last over. In the end Zaheer’s experience with the ball and Chris Morris’ nerves of steel helped them defend the total for just the third time in 17 matches in this season thus far.
Rohit won the toss and decided to bowl fist considering the advantage chasing teams have had in the league. Looking at the prospect of bowling second Zak added another leggie to the attack as Imran Tahir replaced Carlos Brathwaite. DD didn’t get off to a good start losing their star with the bat Quinton de Kock quite cheaply, but their young yet talented batting lineup was up for the task. Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson had a settling 3rd wicket partnership and though Iyer got out after a start Samson carried on to score a half-century. He found good support from senior pro JP Duminy who stayed there till the end and was unbeaten on 49. DD managed 164 and that looked quite par at the half-way stage given the fact that the Kotla wicket tends to slow down later in the day.
Mumbai had a similar start as Parthiv Patel was run out with just 9 runs on the board. Rohit Sharma once again decided to anchor the inning, Ambati Rayudu also got a start with 25 off 23 balls but was bowled by an Amit Mishra googly. Krunal Pandya was promoted to number 4 and boy the elder Pandya brother came true to the promise. He played a smart striking knock and hit 36 off just 17 balls. But the moment things looked in control for MI, he was run out and there after the momentum never quite returned to their balance. Rohit was there till the end but needed someone from the other end to hit the big shots, that didn’t happen and MI lost the match by 10 runs.
Here is how Twitter reacted right through the game:

If #DD wins, #MI will think about the Krunal Pandya runout…and if #MI wins, #DD would look at this Negi attempt (or the lack of it) #DDvMI
