After a one sided affair in Pune between the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the action moved to Hyderabad for second game of the double header. The hosts, Sunrisers Hyderabad took on the Delhi Daredevils in the key clash. Coming in to the game, the Sunrisers were in a happy place among the top four in the points table. On the other hand, the Delhi Daredevils were the more desperate side in the game looking for the win.

Having lost 6 games this season, every game from hereon is like a must-win game for the Shreyas Iyer-led side. They managed to win their previous encounter against the Rajasthan Royals and hoped to continue on the winning run. But they were up against a very competent and consistent Sunrisers camp in the game. At the half way stage, the Delhi Daredevils would believe that they have fallen just short of a safe total in the game.

At the toss, the Delhi Daredevils opted to bat first. Clearly, they did not want to play to the strengths of the Sunrisers, who have been highly successful in defending totals this season. Delhi sprung a surprise by letting Glenn Maxwell open the innings with Prithvi Shaw. The move failed miserably with Maxwell getting run out on just 2. Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw then steadied the innings for the Daredevils.

Their efforts need to be lauded since they did not let the champion SRH bowling dictate terms on the day. They added a crucial 86 runs for the second wicket with Shaw dominating the partnership. En route the partnership, Shaw scored his second fifty of the season. He eventually perished on 65 that came off just 36 deliveries with 6 fours and three sixes to his name. It was Rashid Khan who got the big breakthrough. Shreyas Iyer also chipped in with a contribution of 36-ball 44 as the innings progressed.

After Iyer’s dismissal, the innings did not find any other player who could take the innings baton further. The Daredevils could only muster 163 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. For the Sunrisers, Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/23 to his name in four overs.
