The Feroz Shah Kotla stadium witnessed a thriller as the home team Delhi Daredevils managed to diminish Rising Pune Supergiant’s campaign with a win. With this loss, the RPS now face Kings XI Punjab in a must-win situation for both the teams on Sunday. Earlier in the day, it was captain Zaheer Khan who won the toss as Daredevils elected to bat first. Carlos Brathwaite made way for Shahbaz Nadeem in the playing XI. For the RPS team, Adam Zampa replaced Imran Tahir who left for South Africa.
Delhi began poorly as both Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed cheaply. It was Karun Nair who struck a brilliant 64 runs from 45 balls alongside Rishabh Pant with a gritty knock of 36 (22) as they rescued Delhi. While Marlon Samuels tried to hang in for a while, he couldn’t get going as the Delhi batting lineup faltered in the end overs.
Corey Anderson too failed to execute any power hitting as Delhi Daredevils settled for 168/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Jaydev Unadkat continued to produce clinical performance with the ball as he had figures of 2/29 while even Ben Stokes managed to get a couple of wickets. The trio of Adam Zampa, Daniel Christian and Washington Sundar also managed to get a wicket each.
In the chase, Ajinkya Rahane continued his indifferent form with the bat as he was bowled by veteran Zaheer Khan on the very first ball of the RPS innings. Rahul Tripathi also failed to stay at the crease for a longer duration. Captain Steve Smith played a responsible knock.
However, it was Manoj Tiwary who dug deeper as he smashed a fantastic 60 runs from 45 balls. He was well supported by Ben Stokes as they together took RPS real close to the target. However, once he got out, Pune were in a spot of bother. MS Dhoni suffered a rare run out as Delhi bowlers cashed in on the pressure.
At the end, Pune fell short of the target by 7 runs as DD managed to sneak a victory. While it was an inconsequential win for them, it would surely bring some good vibes to the DD camp. Zaheer Khan continued to impress with figures of 2/25 in his quota of four overs. Karun Nair was deservingly awarded the man of the match for his knock.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that appeared during the course of the game:

If nothing else, Corey Anderson fails to drop them – no wonder he doesn't belong to this side #DDvRPS

Karun Nair can't have a good match if he doesn't drop a sitter..
His main aim is to drop an easy one, everytime..#IPL— Jaanvi ? (@ThatCricketGirl) May 12, 2017
Nice drop Karun Nair but Dhoni is not the Indian captain anymore.

Since his 60 against Mumbai in his first match of the season, Rahane has managed only 188 runs in 12 innings !! #IPL #DDvRPS

Fielding by RPS?
Stokes' run out and catch.
Unadkat's catch just like Saha's without gloves.
Dhoni's full stretched catch and stumping.— Silly Point (@FarziCricketer) May 12, 2017
100 wickets in IPL for Zaheer Khan …what a legend ? #DDvRPS

Longest innings of Rahane without costing RPS any slow runrate. #ipl

This is the best thing Rahane could have done to help RPS in this chase.#DDvRPS

Delhi have the bowlers to defend 168. Do they have will and ambition remaining?

Ben Stokes is the best limited overs cricketer in the world. Best all-rounder. Excellent across conditions. What an incredible cricketer.

Variations from Stokes, that has been the biggest improvement in his T20 bowling.

Rishabh Pant is a cross between Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina…free flowing like Yuvi and strong through the off side like Raina. Talented.
