England showed India why they are still at No.2 and what makes them the No.1 ODI team. Joe Root hit the winning shots dropped his bat and it was truly a mic drop performance by the England Test captain. After the Indian team batting first crawled their way to 256 it appeared as if batting was actually difficult on this wicket, however, all the English batters were at ease and got over the line with 8 wickets and more than 5 overs to spare.

It was a day Virat Kohli and his team would want to forget. Like a nightmare. Being asked to bat first Rohit Sharma struggled against the new-ball bowlers and that kind of set the momentum for the Indian innings. He got out for 2 from 18 balls. Shikhar Dhawan couldn’t keep up the scoring rate either. He did score 44 runs but took 49 balls which is unlike him.

Virat Kohli looked fluent, as Dinesh Karthik and Suresh Raina got out in quick succession both the middle order batsmen were accounted for by Adil Rashid who would later also dismiss Kohli. The Indian skipper scored yet another half century and the fans would’ve hoped he’d take the team to a good total. But once Rashid produced the beauty that stunned Kohli there was hardly any life left in the Indian batting line-up. MS Dhoni struggled to play the big shots and could never actually bat freely, Hardik Pandya was ordinary as well. On the back of Shardul Thakur’s cameo Team India managed to post a total over 250 runs in their 50 overs.

It was expected that a sluggish looking wicket would get worse and the target was rather an interesting one. Once Jonny Bairstow and James Vince walked out to bat runs were just flowing out of the bat. Boundaries were coming at will and the Indian pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur were way below ordinary. They bowled just where the batsmen wanted and runs were easy to come.

Bairstow’s 13-ball 30 set the platform and Joe Root and Eoin Morgan shared an almost 200-run partnership and took the team home. Root got to his hundred on the last ball of the innings while Morgan was unbeaten on 88. With that, the home team also claimed the series 2-1.
