In what was a run-fest at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, Team India managed to seal the series as they now gained an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. This was India’s third consecutive ODI series win and their ninth ODI victory on the trot. Earlier in the day, it was skipper Steve Smith who won his first toss in the series. Australia elected to bat first and put runs on the board on what looked like a flat pitch. India had an unchanged XI from their last game.
Australia had Aaron Finch and Peter Handscomb coming in place of Hilton Cartwright and Mathew Wade. Batting first, the visitors were off to a splendour start as Finch and David Warner put up 70 runs for the first wicket before Hardik Pandya drew first blood. Smith came in at No.3 as he along with Finch then combined for a magnificent 154-run partnership for the third wicket.
While Finch went on to score a spectacular hundred on comeback, Smith also scored a decent fifty. Australia were in a strong position and looked likely to score above 330. However, their dismissals triggered a collapse in the Australian batting lineup. The other batsmen failed to get the quick runs as Australia managed to post a total of 293/6, thanks to a timely cameo from Marcus Stoinis. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick amongst the Indian bowlers with a couple of wickets. Kuldeep Yadav also got two wickets but was on the expensive side. Yuzvendra Chahal and Pandya also got a wicket each.
Openers Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma provided a stellar start to the Indian innings. Both put up a stupendous 139 runs for the first wicket. While Rohit led the charge with an elegant 71 (62), Rahane wasn’t far behind with 70 runs, an innings filled with some classic cricketing shots.
However, the star of the day was Pandya. Having been promoted to No.4, Pandya left no stone unturned as he smashed a fantastic 78 (72). His knock included five boundaries and four sixes. Manish Pandey finished things in style as India managed to chase the total with 5 wickets intact and 13 balls to spare. Pat Cummins got a couple of wickets while Kane Richardson and Nathan Coulter-Nile picked a wicket each. Ashton Agar also got a wicket but was really expensive as the Indian all-rounder hit him for four sixes. India managed to seal the series 3-nil with two matches to go.

I did not quite understand why Smith bowled Agar against Pandya at the start and allowed him to settle.

India should not invite weak teams like England and Australia, these teams deserve to play in second division of world cricket.

The only way Agar is going to get a wicket is someone getting caught near the boundary rope. And he is playing instead of Zampa.

That is a fantastic knock from Pandya but it will be a real gem if he stays to take India past the line.

It used to be a challenge to hit a six once. That one from Rohit Sharma was an example of how big they hit them now. Bring in 8s?
