In what was a high scoring game at the Rajkot stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore finally managed to put their foot right as they went on to win by 21 runs. Just hours before the game, RCB suffered a jolt as AB De Villiers was ruled out of the game.
Captain Suresh Raina won the toss as the Gujarat Lions elected to bowl first. Aaron Finch was back in place of Jason Roy while Dhawal Kulkarni and Shivil Koushik were brought in for Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel. For RCB, Travis Head and Chris Gayle were brought into the playing XI instead of ABD and Samuel Badree.
As RCB would have wished, Chris Gayle was back in full swing as he slayed the Gujarat Lion bowlers out of the den. He went on to score a magnificent 77 runs from just 38 balls which included 7 big hits. Virat Kohli provided ample support to him from the other end as he also made his way to a classy knock of 64 off 50 balls.
Both openers together combined for a 122 run partnership for the first wicket in just 12.4 overs. Once both were back to the pavilion, it was Travis Head and Kedhar Jadhav who provided a fantastic display of pinch hitting in the end. Their effort steered RCB to a spectacular total of 213/2.
The Gujarat Lions bowling was shambolic, to say the least. Ravindra Jadeja went on to concede 57 runs in his four overs, Shivil Koushik and Dwayne Smith both were taken to the cleaners. Even their prime bowler Andrew Tye failed to take a wicket.
On the other hand, it was a poor start for Gujarat Lions as they lost Dwayne Smith in the second over. Suresh Raina who got a good start failed to convert into anything big. However, Brendon McCullum singlehandedly played an impressive knock of 72 from 44 deliveries to keep Gujarat in the hunt.
However, he didn’t find any support from the other end. Aaron Finch, Dinesh Karthik failed to get going as Gujarat were put on the backfoot. There was some late charge by youngster Ishan Kishan who scored 39 off 16 but it was too late for the Gujarat Lions as they fell short of the target by 21 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal shined again with figures of 3/31.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:

This is how not to bat in a final over. First ball should have been single. Then boundaries. Tye has really balled this up

Jadhav and Head should keep switching between keeping and bowling, given the state of RCB's bowling attack.

Hoped for Chris Gayle to hit a flat six and knock out cold that cheerleader guy dressed like a European imperialist. Life isn't fair.

Jadeja flogged after a long time, reminder of what happens more in limited overs than Tests. Sameness, predictability, his undoing. #GLvRCB
