India couldn’t have asked for anything better as the hosts ended the day’s play clearly having the upper hand in the match. India ended Day Three at 159 for 1, leading by 215 runs.

The third day witnessed the pitch offering support for spinners, batsmen, and the pacers as well. Both the Indian spinners struck early in the day as they dismissed the well settled Kane Williamson and Tom Latham. Soon after the veteran batsman, Ross Taylor was dismissed for a duck which was a symptom of things to come.

Just after lunch, Ravindra Jadeja unleashed as he bagged 3 wickets in his one over to have the visitors 9 down and thereby he bagged his 5-for. Ravichandran Ashwin claimed the last wicket to close the innings with India having a decent lead of 56.

India’s second innings saw Murali Vijay taking on from where he left in the first innings with his elegant shots. Rahul was playing positively as he has done in the first innings as he played his shots with conviction and didn’t allow the spinners to settle down. However, he was dismissed for 38 by Ish Sodhi.

India went for Tea at 52 for 1. The Pujara-Vijay duo, who added 112 runs for the second wicket, continued their good run as they took India to 159 without any more damage. When Vijay applied himself at the crease, Pujara dictated terms to the New Zealand spinners as he was having a strike-rate over 100 in the early part of his innings. Vijay on 64 and Pujara on 50 is at the crease.

With 9 wickets in hand and having a lead of 215 runs, India will try to up the ante and post a huge target for the visitors.
