Twitter Reactions: India finally get the inevitable run out

Virat Kohli called right at the toss and inserted Pakistan first at The Oval. It was not a surprise as both sides have chased well in this tournament. After succumbing to a 124-run defeat against India earlier, the pressure was on Pakistan going into this final. They were off to a sedate start and picked their pace as the innings went on. Azhar Ali and young Fakhar Zaman after weathering the storm batted very sensibly to give Pakistan a great start. They rose the fifty of the innings in the 10th over. Strike rotation was brilliant between both openers but they got into a tangle every now and again while cantering through for the singles. Amidst the careen running, there were some glorious shots played by both players. Azhar was the first to reach to his half-century off just 61 balls, his third fifty of the ongoing competition. Zaman followed suit as he took just 60 balls to get his third consecutive half-century of his ODI career. Indian bowlers had done their homework and targeted Zaman’s body so that he couldn’t open his arms and hit the ball through his strong zones. The ploy worked early on but Zaman figured a way of getting runs, his scoring rate was slow but he improved as his innings went on. Pakistan registering a consecutive hundred-run opening partnership is rare as Azhar and Zaman achieved that feat after a gap of 14 years. Their running was oscillating between sharp and lax. In the 12th over, Azhar nudged one to midwicket and ran immediately, Rohit quickly got to his right and threw instantly but missed the stumps by a whisker as Azhar was not even in the frame. There were a couple more of such instances where India failed to hit the stumps. India have managed to effect 6 run outs so far in 4 games in this tournament and it was a matter of time before they had another one. The inconsistent calling between the openers finally brought the downfall of one of them: Azhar Ali, when he hit one to square leg and ran immediately. Fakhar Zaman was ball watching and did not hear the call and stood his ground which got both batsmen to the same end. All credit goes to Bumrah who stuck his left hand out and stopped the ball, which led to the confusion. Dhoni just had to take the bails off as no batsmen tried to get back into the crease.
