Entering day 2, it was advantage India and why not, their bowlers had put up a magnificent effort to restrict the hosts to 198/7. All their recognized batters were back in hut except Jos Buttler and he ended up making difference. It was his 98-run partnership with Stuart Broad that helped England get past the 300-run mark and they ended up posting a really good looking first innings total of 332. Towards the end of the day, India lost their skipper Virat Kohli, are six down and 158 runs behind.

The visitors had managed six wickets in the last session on day 1 but they got just one against 106 runs in the first session of day 2. The way Buttler batted and developed that partnership to almost bat India out of the game. Shikar Dhawan was once again dismissed for cheap, Stuart Broad and James Anderson were both bowling really well. Broad got one to seam back in and the left-hander was hit in front of the stumps.

KL Rahul played some really positive shots trying to accumulate runs whenever there was an opportunity. But the dangerous Sam Curran got one to shape back into Rahul and his stumps were shattered. Cheteshwar Pujara used his feet really well and was scoring from the onset as well. He didn’t let Moeen Ali settle. Just when he looked settle Pujara found himself in the middle of a hostile spell from James Anderson and edged one to the keeper.

Ajinkya Rahane’s stay the crease was for just 8 balls and he didn’t trouble the scorers. It was now skipper Kohli and debutant Hanuma Vihar in the middle. Kohli continued his scoring streak but got out just one short of a fifty. Vihar, on the other hand, had to face his biggest test up front, he was scratchy but survived, England didn’t review a decision and then he successfully reviewed another.

At the end of the day, he stood at the crease with Rishabh Pant for company having scored 25 runs. Team India has 176 runs on the board for the loss of 6 wickets and will want the lower order and the tail to wag like England’s.
