In what was a sensational performance by the home team at Pune, India won the game by six wickets to level the series 1-1. The Kiwis failed to replicate their batting performance from the last game as they failed to go above 250. India chased it comfortably without any panic.
Earlier in the day, it was skipper Kane Williamson who won the toss as New Zealand elected to bat first. India made one change as they had Axar Patel coming in for Kuldeep Yadav. As for New Zealand, they had an unchanged XI from their last game.
Batting first, the Kiwis were in a spot of bother after Martin Guptill who was in a hitting spree ended up edging one to MS Dhoni. Skipper Kane Williamson and Colin Munro followed him back to the pavilion as the New Zealanders were left reeling at 27/3.
Heroes of the last game Tom Latham and Ross Taylor failed to recreate their magic again at the Pune stadium as they failed to convert their good starts. Henry Nicholls and Colin De Grandhomme tried to score some crucial runs but couldn’t prolong their stay at the crease. Some cameos by Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner ensured New Zealand had 230 runs to defend.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick amongst the Indian bowlers with splendid figures of 3/45. Jasprit Bumrah was also brilliant as he picked up a couple of wickets alongside being economical. Yuzvendra Chahal managed to get a couple of wickets as well. Axar Patel got the important wicket of last game’s centurion Tom Latham. Hardik Pandya who bowled only 4 overs got a wicket too.
Rohit Sharma continued his trail of soft dismissals as he flicked one straight to Munro. Shikhar Dhawan went on to score a half century, which was his first fifty against New Zealand. However, he failed to convert it into a hundred. On the other hand, skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed by an away swinger by De Grandhomme.
Dinesh Karthik who was India’s new No.4 for today managed to grab some eyeballs with a spectacular half century, which was only his ninth fifty in ODIs. Hardik Pandya looked good but failed to stay till the end. MS Dhoni who walked in to huge roar from the crowd managed to play some fantastic shots in his small cameo as India went on to win the game by 6 wickets with four overs to spare.
Twitter was at it’s usual best throughout the game. Right from lauding the duo of Bhuvi-Bumrah to trolling NZ batting, right from lauding Dhawan and Karthik to trolling Rohit Sharma, here we present to you, some of the best tweets during the second One Day International between India and New Zealand.

Shikhar Dhawan would be playing gully cricket in delhi if there was no left-handed quota. Bring back our Rahane.

Kedar Jadhav with a wonderful spell. Got through 7 overs in the blink of an eye and slowed the scoring rate in the process.

You now have Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik & Kedar Jadhav who have absolutely no idea where they have to bat and how.

I have always seen Henry Nicholls as a gritty cricketer. He has done well on a couple of tough pitches. This is his chance.

Let's hope we don't have a decision turned down that costs NZ the match … #NZvIND

While we watch the development of Hardik Pandya with much interest, I must admit to be being perplexed by Dhoni being dropped down the order

Didn't wait for umpire's decision. Simply walked away because he knew he was out. That's Virat Kohli for you. True Sportsmanship. #INDvNZ
