Twitter Reactions: India thrash Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets

Anukul Roy bowled beautifully and scalped a five-wicket haul.

After thumping Australia in their first encounter of the tournament, India was up against Papua New Guinea in their second encounter of the group B. Papua New Guinea had a poor start to their campaign as they were beaten comprehensively in their first game against Zimbabwe.

Prithvi Shaw won the toss and asked the opponents to bat first. Shivam Mavi didn’t disappoint the skipper as he sent the opener Igo Mahuru back to the pavilion in his second over. The PNG batsmen had no answers to the speedy deliveries of the bowler. He shattered the stumps of Heagi Toua with a quick delivery.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Simon Atai had hit 2 fours in the previous over but he got run out after the wicket of Toua. By the end of the 10 overs, PNG was tottering at 40 for 3. Anukul Roy then bamboozled the PNG batsmen with the spin as he picked up a fifer in just 6.5 overs. They lost their last seven wickets for just 22 runs and they were bundled out for 64 in just 20.5 overs. Out of the five wickets of Roy, on three occasions he disturbed the woodwork. Only three of the PNG batsmen managed to go past the double-digit score in their innings.

India stroll to victory

Indian openers had a massive 180-run stand in the game against Australia. The 64-run target was not going to trouble them at all. Skipper Shaw took the charge in the run chase as he smashed 3 fours in the third over of the innings. A target as small as 64 meant that both the openers were playing freely, without any pressure.

Shaw took most of the strikes during the run chase and was hitting a couple of boundaries every over. He completed his second consecutive half-century in just 39 balls while Manjot Kalra was happy giving the strike back to his skipper.

57 off just 39 balls from skipper was good enough as India chased down the target in just eight overs without losing any wicket. Shaw smashed 12 boundaries in the innings. Manjot Kalra played second fiddle in the run chase and remained unbeaten of nine runs off 9 balls.
