Team India got off to a blistering start with both their openers batting with jetpacks on as the ball seemed to be taking off their bats. Skipper Rohit Sharma was at his very best. He was absolutely killing it out there with his sweet timing and stupendous hitting. Rohit was dealing all in boundaries and sixes as the team score was flying off the charts.

KL Rahul at the other end though couldn’t match him shot for shot was scoring with a strike rate of 180. It was a belter of a surface and Rohit hit the ball through the line. On a bowler’s graveyard, he relished this opportunity to play all the shots he had in his arsenal and it was all coming off. In no time he got to his hundred. He’d just batted for 35 balls and touched the triple figures. That earned him the record for the fastest hundred in T20I cricket.

Rohit was eventually dismissed for 118 from 43 balls having hit 12 boundaries and 10 sixes. His partner, Rahul carried on after he got out and took the charge. He was also able to launch the ball into the stands at will and ended his innings after scoring 89 runs from 49 balls.

Eventually, Team India concluded their 20 overs with 260 runs for the loss of 5 wickets; which is now the joint second-highest team score in T20I cricket.

Sri Lanka were up chasing a mountain. More often than not a team would have submitted meekly but they weren’t going down without a fight tonight. Kusal Perera and Upul Tharanga gave the Indian bowlers a taste of the bitter pill hitting sixes one after the other as both Indian wrist spinners had an expensive day in the middle.

Though they couldn’t carry on for longer as Kuldeep Yadav claimed three in his last over to finish with figures of 3/52, Yuzvendra Chahal also came back to scalp the wickets and concluded his four overs with 4/52. The visitors lost the plot and the scoring rate was way beyond achievable and as Hardik Pandya bowled Chameera they won the match by 88 runs.
