The second Test between India and Sri Lanka kicked off in Nagpur. On a day that belonged to India, Sri Lanka managed to get an early wicket in India’s batting innings. While Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal made their mark, the day belonged to the duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Dinesh Chandimal continued to have luck his way at the toss as he once again had the chance to make the call after the coin flip and elected to bat first. The visitors had an unchanged XI from the last game. As for India, they made three changes. Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma replaced Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami.

Batting first, the Sri Lankans weren’t off to a great start. While Sadeera Samarawickrama was dismissed cheaply, even Lahiru Thirumanne failed to do anything special. Angelo Mathews was also sent back to the pavilion early they were reeling at 60/3.

That’s when Dimuth Karunaratne and skipper Dinesh Chandimal combined for a 62 run partnership. They helped the visitors recover from an early slump. Both went on to register half centuries. However, as soon as it seemed that Sri Lanka were gaining some hold, Ishant Sharma produced a breakthrough.

The likes of Niroshan Dickwella and Dasun Shanaka were also dismissed in quick intervals. The spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja started to create havoc as Sri Lanka kept losing quick wickets. Dilruwan Perera and Suranga Lakmal tried to prolong Sri Lanka’s total but failed to create much of an impact.

The Sri Lankans were bowled out for a total of 205 runs. Ashwin was the pick amongst the Indian bowlers with four wickets. Jadeja also managed to get three wickets. Comeback man Ishant was also splendid with three wickets as Indian bowlers had a good day on the field.

Coming out to bat with some overs left, India lost KL Rahul early. Lahiru Gamage had him bowled with an inside edge. Team India maintained normal batting order and Cheteshwar Pujara walked in ahead of the night watchman. India didn’t lose another wicket in the day as they were 11/1 at stumps on Day 1.
