Ishant Sharma became a subject for butt of serious jokes on the social media after India lost the 3rd ODI to Australia. Sharma was the top trending name in Twitter during the crucial third ODI between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday.
Ishant, with figures of 2/53, had the best bowling figures for India. However, Matthew Wade’s dismissal was surrounded by confusion after replays showed him overstepping the bowling crease. Sharma dismissed Wade after the Australian was caught by Shikhar Dhawan at mid-on but confusion arose when an optical illusion was created because of Glenn Maxwell’s bat, who was standing at the non-striker’s end. Twitter erupted in reaction with tweets flowing in from everywhere. People even went to the extent of calling him as ‘Sir’ Ishant Sharma, a prefix which was famously associated with Ravindra Jadeja.
Most of them believed that it was a no-ball but Cricket Australia clarified the confusion with an explanatory tweet. Wade’s dismissal was crucial as it brought Australia down to 215/6 while chasing the 296-run target set by India in the first innings. However, India could not save the match as Glenn Maxwell produced a fabulous knock of 96 runs to enable Australia win the match and gained an unbeatable lead of 3-0 in the 5-match series.
Previously, during the last game at Gabba, social media bashed him for dropping the catch of Shaun Marsh at the boundary ropes. Twitter is an unforgiving place and anybody who gives the slightest chance to the sarcastic heads, faces the most disgusting time of their life.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the incident:
