St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, on Wednesday, slumped to their third loss on the trot in CPL 2021. Jamaica Tallawahs beat them by 22 runs at the Warner Park in St Kitts. The Tallawahs, meanwhile, also ceased their three-match losing streak.

Shamarh Brooks top-scores

After being put in to bat, opening batsmen Kennar Lewis and Kirk McKenzie took the Tallawahs off to a steady start. However, it was Shamarh Brooks 43 and Rovman Powell’s 37 that injected the much-needed momentum into the Tallawahs’ innings.

Andre Russell’s cameo of 28 propelled the Tallawahs to 169 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. For the Patriots, Dominic Drakes, Fawad Ahmed and Jon-Russ Jaggesar picked up two wickets each. Fabian Allen and Paul van Meekeren got one scalp each.

Tallawahs romp home

The Patriots found themselves in trouble after Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis got out cheaply. Joshua Da Silva scored 28, but at less than a run-a-ball. But fall of regular wickets kept the Patriots on the backfoot and the required run-rate escalated as well.

Dominic Drakes and Fabian Allen tried hard with 22 and 18 respectively, but they could only take the Patriots to 147. For the Tallawahs, Migael Pretorius was the most successful with three scalps. Veerasammy Permaul picked up two wickets each.

Thought the bowlers did a brilliant job to pull back Jamaica: Chris Gayle

Despite the win, Andre Russell, who became the Player of the Match, wasn’t a happy man. However, he lauded the Tallawahs for the win. Gayle, on the other hand, talked about his team making a comeback against Trinbago Knight Riders.

“I’m not pleased with how the things are going, should have done better in the last few games. It was a total team effort, so appreciate everyone’s efforts. Happy that we didn’t lose wickets in the first six overs. Hope I can get my range back (while batting). We all are friends; at the end of the day, it was a good team effort from the Jamaica Tallawahs,” Russell was quoted as saying.

“Thought the bowlers did a brilliant job to pull back Jamaica to 170. After we lost two wickets, we lost momentum and left it late. It was par. Even if it was spinning, it’s not that there were any demons. Have to rebound and come back against Trinidad. When your back is against the ball, need to dig to find a match-winning innings. Hopefully it’ll be in the next game,” Gayle stated.

Here’s how the netizens reacted to Tallawahs’ win
