Now, this is what you call Test cricket at its best! While their defeat in the second Ashes Test was inevitable, they didn’t go down without fighting. The likes of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes, who are known for their big striking, played opposite of their character and tried to upset the Aussies with a draw. However, the Aussie bowlers were too hot to handle, especially Jhye Richardson, who scalped his maiden five-wicket haul in Test matches. As a result, Aussies recorded a 275-run win.

Speaking of how the entire day panned out, England started at their overnight score of 82/4, needing 375 more runs to cross the line. On the other hand, the Aussies needed just six wickets to go 2-0 up in the series. The Three Lions got off to a terrible start as Ollie Pope was dismissed in just the second over of the day. With half of the team being back in the hut, Australia’s win looked just a matter of time.

Jos Buttler frustrated Australian bowlers

However, the rest of the England batters decided to not go down without fighting. Dashers like Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler showcased remarkable resilience and defended deliveries left, right and center. While Stokes got out after surviving 77 balls for 12 runs, Buttler didn’t lose his concentration and continued to frustrate Australian bowlers.

Notably, it was the fifth day of the Test and the ball was turning square for off-spinner Nathan Lyon. Hence, England did a commendable job to take the game to the third session. Meanwhile, Buttler found a substantial partner in Woakes after Stokes’ departure. The duo formed a substantial partnership and took the game to the second session.

The clock again turned in Australia’s favour as Woakes’ resilience ended in the second session. However, Buttler was as solid as a rock. Tail-enders Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad supported him well as the Three Lions somehow managed to survive one more session. Australian camp would have been tense as they needed two wickets in the final session.

Just when the game looked spiced, Buttler was dismissed in arguably the most unfortunate manner. He went on the backfoot to tackle Richardson’s short delivery and shattered the stumps with his foot. He was subsequently dismissed and the Aussies didn’t have to work hard for the last wicket either. As a result, Aussies won their ninth successive Pink-Ball Test and gained a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Australia’s win
