Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan lost their first matches of the Super 4 in the 2018 Asia Cup and desperately needed a victory. They are currently locking horns today at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and the Tigers posted a competitive score of 249 for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs after Asghar Afghans got them by the scruff of their necks with wickets at regular intervals.
Harakiri by Bangladesh
The start wasn’t auspicious for Bangladesh by any means as Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mohammad Mithun were nipped out by Aftab Alam and Mujeeb Ur Rahman respectively. Thereafter, Liton Das, who couldn’t score in the first three matches, buckled down along with Mushfiqur Rahim to resurrect the innings. The duo added 63 runs from 79 deliveries.
However, Das perished for 41 runs after going for an outrageous stroke off Rashid Khan. The next couple of overs turned out to be a nightmare for Bangladesh as Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim succumbed to a couple of horrendous run-outs. In the meantime, half the Tigers’ batting lineup back was back in the pavilion in the 21st over with the score at 87.
Tigers script comeback
The onus was on Mahmudullah and Imrul Kayes, who replaced Mosaddek Hossain, to guide their team to a respectable score. The Afghan tweakers were in operation and the task was never going to be easy for the duo. However, they didn’t get flustered and put on a stand of 128 runs to put Bangladesh in a commanding position from where they can inject impetus into the innings.
Mahmudullah and Kayes scored 74 and 72 runs respectively and they got separated when the former was dismissed by Aftab Alam. The pacer picked up his second wicket in the form of Mortaza, the Bangladeshi captain. However, Kayes went on to play till the very end and made sure that the Tigers’ bowlers have something to bowl during Afghanistan’s run chase.

Reverse Sweeping Rashid Khan for a 4
When have you seen this before?

If a bowler allowed to bowl more than 10 overs, Bumrah and Rashid Khan would have single handedly won all the matches. #CBHaveYourSay #IndvsPak #AfgvsBan

Meanwhile, Mahmudullah has hit 2 sixes off Rashid Khan today!

Hitting Sixes with ease in Rashid khan's bowling 😑😑

Afghanistan gambled by bowling Rashid Khan so early today. Not once in 2018 has he bowled more overs at this stage of an ODI innings. If Bangladesh can cling on….#AsiaCup #AFGvBAN

Bangladesh have attacked 34% of Rashid Khan's deliveries today – that's the most they've attacked any Afghanistan bowler. #AsiaCup #AFGvBAN

@Sah75official you should've said that you've no mood to play or could've just let us know from before that @rashidkhan_19 gonna take your wicket.
In that way we wouldn't have been disappointed .— Radial Omer (@OmerRadial) September 23, 2018
When Bangladeshi players are playing against Rashid Khan, they think they are playing against a ghost… that's why they gave up to play cricket.#AFGvBAN

Bangladesh look like they have a flight to catch later tonight. Two run-outs against a team that has Rashid Khan.#BANvAFG #AsiaCup2018

Excellent stuff from Kayes, to come into the side and then play such a knock. Bangladesh have a score to defend now do Afghanistan have in them to chase this down?
— Nikhil 🏏 (@CricCrazyNIKS) September 23, 2018
249 – Banglas will be happy with that after the start. Not confident in Afghans batting to get 250, but could be a close one… #asiacup

Bangladesh have been successful in their plan to tackle Rashid Khan in the middle overs by sending Imrul Kayes at No 6 #BANvAFG
