Twitter Reactions: Kings XI Punjab end their losing streak

In what was another exciting contest at Rajkot, Kings XI Punjab came back to winning ways after four consecutive losses. On the other hand, Gujarat Lions continued to languish at the bottom of the points table.

Earlier in the day, it was Captain Suresh Raina who won the toss as Gujarat Lions elected to bat first. They made four changes as Andrew Tye, Nathu Singh, Shubham Agarwal and Akshdeep Nath were brought into the playing XI. Kings XI Punjab also made 3 changes as Manan Vohra, KC Cariappa and Natarajan were included.

While Vohra got out, Hashim Amla continued from where he left in the last game as he batted superbly. He went on to score a splendid 65 runs from 40 balls. From the other end, Shaun Marsh held a good hand in supporting him before getting dismissed by Tye.

Later, it was Captain Glenn Maxwell who provided some big blows before getting trapped LBW by Ravindra Jadeja. While Marcus Stoinis failed to get going, it was Axar Patel who again stood up in the end. His quickfire cameo of 34 off 17 balls ensured Punjab had a good 188 runs to defend.

For Gujarat Lions, Brendon McCullum had a rare failure in this season while Aaron Finch too was dismissed early. It was Captain Suresh Raina who took the initiative of guiding as he lead from the front with some quality batting. However, his stay at the crease didn’t last long enough for Gujarat as he got out for 32 from 24 deliveries.

Dinesh Karthik who came at number 4 batted exceptionally well. However, wickets kept falling at the other end as Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Smith failed to hang in. Andrew Tye did provide some crucial support but his 22 off 12 was just not enough.

At the end, Gujarat Lions fell 26 runs short as Dinesh Karthik stayed not out at 58 off 44. KC Cariappa was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/24 while Mohit Sharma was also excellent with 1/25. Axar Patel and Sandeep Sharma also got a couple of wickets each but were expensive.
