Delhi Capitals have defeated the high-flying Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets to make the IPL 2022 points table all the more interesting. It was indeed a comprehensive win from Rishabh Pant’s team as the inaugural-season champions hardly looked in the hunt. Chasing 161 for victory, DC comfortably crossed the line in just 18.1 overs, thanks to a remarkable knock from Mitchell Marsh. The Capitals have certainly gained command in the playoff race with this triumph.

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. RR suffered a major blow early with orange-cap holder perishing at a personal score of just seven. Interestingly, Ravichandran Ashwin came out to bat at number three and the move paid dividends. The veteran all-rounder joined forces with Yashasvi Jaiswal and the duo took RR past the 50-run mark.

While Jaiswal was dismissed for a run-a-ball 19, Ashwin batted with precision on a tricky surface and brought up his maiden half-century in IPL. However, he went back right after reaching the landmark. Meanwhile, the baton was then passed onto Devdutt Padikkal, who put up a batting exhibition towards the end. He enhanced RR’s scoring rate with some delightful shots and ended up scoring a 30-ball 48.

Mitchell Marsh recorded his maiden IPL half-century

DC bowlers pulled things back towards the end as the Men in Pink posted 160/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For Capitals, Chetan Sakariya, Anrich Nortje and Mitchell Marsh scalped two wickets apiece. Meanwhile, Delhi’s chase got off to a disastrous start with Trent Boult dismissing opener KS Bharat for a two-ball duck. Nonetheless, David Warner joined forces with Mitchell Marsh and the duo steadied the ship with a stellar 144–run partnership for the second wicket.

While Warner took the backseat and played the second fiddle, Marsh was at his destructive best as he made a mockery off RR’s famed bowling attack and brought up his maiden IPL fifty. He ended up scoring 89 off 62 balls as DC crossed the line in 18.1 overs, clinching the contest by eight wickets. Meanwhile, Warner also recorded an unbeaten fifty.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to DC’s triumph:
