A rain hampered Day 2 forced both Pakistan and West Indies to make themselves at home in the dressing room for the most part of the day. After a series of disappointing inspections, the covers slowly began to peel off at around 1:40 pm. The WICB was quick to tweet out the sessions, as play was scheduled to begin at 2:10 pm.

Although Pakistan mulled over the void that would be created once Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan hung up their boots, the latter considered rethinking his decision. Before the game was underway, Younis Khan expressed his openness to extend his international career.

Devendra Bishoo and Jason Holder finally made their way out to the middle after having annoyed the Pakistani bowlers in the dying hours of Day 1. The West Indies tail was wagging a little, but Mohammad Amir had his eyes on bagging his first 5-for since the 2010 Lord’s Test. Weather and light permitting, a total of 53 overs would be bowled on Day 2. Eventually, the rain gods ensured that only a fourth of that number were played.

Seven overs into the day’s play under grey skies at Sabina Park, Mohammad Amir inched one step closer to his much-awaited feat. Bishoo swished at an overpitched delivery outside off and edged it for a simple catch to the keeper.

The memorable moment came as Amir fired one into Alzarri Joseph. The ball burst through Joseph’s blade and crashed into the woodwork to award Mohammad Amir his first 5-for since his revival in the game. Amir fittingly got down to perform a sajda.

As Pakistan were one wicket away from wrapping up the West Indies’ first innings, a slight drizzle decided to play spoilsport. The wait continued for two Pakistani veterans who were on the brink of two impressive milestones. Misbah was 49 runs away from completing 5000 Test runs, while Younis Khan needed another 23 to enter the 10,000 league.

However, it was Amir’s 5-for which headlined a rain-curtailed day at the Sabina Park. The West Indies, on the other hand, wouldn’t be complaining too much as they’d soon have to bowl to a star-studded Pakistani batting line-up. With 2 days already elapsed, the hosts would fancy heading this Test into a draw and avoid a defeat, which, for them, has sadly been the leitmotif of the ongoing series.
